Washington, D.C. (Terror Monitor) — U.S. President Donald Trump has renewed his previous threats to target Iran’s civilian infrastructure, indicating possible action against power plants, seawater desalination facilities, and Kharg Island, a key hub for Iran’s oil exports.
Nearly 90% of Iran’s oil exports are shipped through Kharg Island.
Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who is involved in ongoing negotiations aimed at achieving a permanent ceasefire, issued a strong response on social media platform X.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also said in a message on Telegram that he had held phone conversations with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Oman, as well as Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Munir has been involved in diplomatic efforts to help end the conflict.
The contacts indicate that efforts to reduce tensions and advance negotiations remain ongoing.
Trump said on Wednesday that the interim ceasefire agreement was “over,” but added that he would allow negotiations to continue, while accusing negotiators of “wasting their time.”
Formal talks toward a final agreement were expected to begin after the burial of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The negotiations are aimed at addressing several complex issues, including the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and restrictions on Tehran’s controversial nuclear program.
