Turkey Detains 199 Suspected ISIS Members in Nationwide Counterterrorism Raids

ANKARA (Terror Monitor) — Turkish authorities have detained 199 people suspected of links to the Islamic State (ISIS) in coordinated counterterrorism operations across 30 provinces, the Interior Ministry announced on Saturday.

The ministry said the raids were carried out simultaneously in provinces including Istanbul and Ankara.

"A total of 199 suspects were detained during police operations conducted against the terrorist organization ISIS across 30 provinces," the ministry said in a statement.

According to officials, the suspects are accused of membership in ISIS, spreading the group's propaganda on social media, and providing financial support to the organization through intermediaries or alleged charitable organizations.

The latest crackdown follows a late-June incident in southern Ankara, where police fatally shot a suspected ISIS member during an exchange of gunfire, about two weeks before the NATO summit in the Turkish capital.

Following that incident, prosecutors in Ankara ordered the detention of 209 people allegedly linked to ISIS and several far-left extremist organizations as part of a broader counterterrorism operation.
