Washington (Terror Monitor) — The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said that around 140 military targets in Iran were hit during the third phase of ongoing operations, including missile and drone facilities, naval capabilities, ammunition storage sites, and communication networks.
CENTCOM said in a statement on X that the latest strikes were carried out in response to another attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, with the aim of holding Iran accountable and reducing its military capabilities.
According to the statement, U.S. forces targeted Iranian military sites using weapons launched from fighter aircraft, drones, and naval warships.
The U.S. military said the targets included Iranian missile and drone facilities, naval assets, ammunition storage facilities, communication networks, coastal surveillance sites, and other military infrastructure.
CENTCOM said that more than 300 Iranian military targets have been targeted during three phases of operations carried out this week, with the goal of limiting Iran’s ability to attack international commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. command said Washington would continue working with its allies to protect international maritime routes and ensure freedom of navigation in the region.
Iran has previously condemned U.S. strikes and claimed several retaliatory actions; however, Tehran has not yet issued an immediate official response to the latest U.S. military claims.
Rising military tensions between Washington and Tehran have increased security concerns around the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf states, while the international community continues to call for restraint and a diplomatic solution.
